Healthcare Refrom This Year

Finally, the time has arrived to fix Americas Healthcare crisis, and Americas healthcare nightmare. Hundreds of thousands of you are killed needlessly every year by your healthcare delivery system in a rush to profit. And because of a rush to profit Hundreds of thousands more of you are needlessly dying from treatable illness that people in other developed and civilized countries don't DIE! from. Rich, middle class, and poor alike. Insured, and uninsured. Men, women, children, and babies.

Additionally, thousands more of you are driven into financial ruin, and bankruptcy just because you, or one of your loved ones got sick or injured. And all of this is happening at a time when America spends twice as much of it's GDP (Gross Domestic Productivity) on health care than any other country in the developed world. Individual Americans spend about ten times as much on health care as any other people in the developed world. This is a CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY. AND IT MUST END!

But before we can truly fix this healthcare crisis and disgrace, everyone needs to clearly understand what the problem is. And everyone needs to clearly understand the real enormity of the problem. The problem is that HEALTHCARE AND MEDICAL DELIVERY IN AMERICA IS SEVERELY CORRUPTED AND COMPROMISED BY GREED! AND THE PRIVATE FOR PROFIT MOTIVE. And it is corrupted, and compromised IN EVERY ASPECT, AND EVERY PLACE OF HEALTHCARE AND MEDICAL DELIVERY. Unfortunately for all Americans, compromised healthcare ALWAYS results in needless suffering, injury, disability, and or death. Which is exactly what is happening now in America in shocking numbers.

Health care is NOT! a private for profit business. Healthcare is an essential public service. Like police, and fire. And healthcare is also a human right! PRIVATE FOR PROFIT HEALTHCARE IS AN OXYMORON, AND AN IMMORAL AND UNETHICAL PERVERSION OF HEALTHCARE AND HUMAN RIGHTS.

So how do we fix this healthcare disgrace? I believe the fix for Americas healthcare disaster is essentially the same thing that every other developed country in the World has essentially done. "NOT FOR PROFIT, TAX PAYER SUPPORTED, SINGLE PAYER, AUTOMATIC, FREE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE FOR ALL. Essentially HR676 (enhanced, and expanded medicare for all). Just like every other CIVILIZED! country in the developed World has. There is no other way to truly fix and reform our current disastrous healthcare delivery system.

All Universal health care systems work best when everyone participates. But I know that the healthcare lobby, and some politicians will try and undermine "Not For Profit, Tax payer supported, Single payer, Automatic, Free Universal Healthcare for all" by falsely claiming that it will limit your choice, and require you to participate.

So, I propose that everyone be included in the national plan unless they choose to opt out. If you opt out and need medical care the national plan will insure your provider that they will be reimbursed under the rules for members in the national plan. But those who opted out, and their insurer will be responsible for the FULL! cost to the national plan for providing your care if you or your private insurer fails to reimburse the provider or the national plan in a timely manor to at least the standards of the national plan.

Including reporting you to credit agencies, withholding of taxes, leans, and garnishment of wages for unpaid medical bills. Just like you have now under private for profit healthcare, and private for profit health insurance.

Further, people who opted out will be required to provide proof of financial responsibility for future illness or be required to participate in the national plan. And everyone with children will be required to participate in the national plan. Or provide proof of insurance coverage on each child to the standards of the national plan. It will be against the law to report anyone in the national plan to a credit agency for unpaid medical bills.

Frankly, only a dope would want to opt out of the national plan and opt to keep our current disastrous private for profit medical, and insurance plans. But they will be free to choose. The most important thing is that the vast majority of Americans that want the protection, benefits, and higher quality of a universal national plan have that choice.

You see, one of the most important aspects of a universal healthcare system is easy access, and patient protection. This is accomplished by having a single payer without a conflict of interest in patient care. And by having a payer who has the power to enforce minimum standards of excellence in healthcare delivery for everyone in the plan. This is much of what Medicare does now for senors. "Aeger Primo" (The patient comes first). Unfortunately in our healthcare system the patient comes last. We are just a peace of meat to them. Cash cows to be slaughtered for profit.

So this is IT! my fellow Americans, My fellow human beings, My fellow World Citizens. And my fellow Cyber Warriors. :-) The time has come. D day. H hour. HEALTHCARE REFORM THIS YEAR! Let no one stand in our way. Contact your representative and tell them you want "Not For Profit, Tax Payer Supported, Single Payer, Automatic, Free Universal healthcare for all. And tell them you want that choice now. Tell them you want President Obama's budget passed as is, without delay. President Obama's budget is brilliant. And exactly what is needed now.

President Obama, and his allies will need all the support you can give them. The healthcare lobby will try to take out his people if they can, like they did with Tom Daschle and Nancy Killefer. And they will try to neutralize President Obama's popularity, and political power. Or they will try to take him down someway. Don't stand for it. If they attack him. Go after them ten times harder and remove them from office. We had an election. And you the people chose President Obama's leadership, and change agenda. Let no one in government disrespect the will of the American people and remain in office.

To President Obama, his Cabinet, the Congress of the United States, and the Supreme Court. I have noticed for some time a disturbing tendency for key members of your bodies to come down with illness, or medical problems at critical legislative times. This may just be coincidence. But I can tell you that there are a million subtle ways to medically injure someone just by doing nothing when something needs to be done. Or by doing things to someone when nothing needs to be done except to give them reassurance. I know for a fact that there are those that would have no qualms about hurting any of you to preserve our current disgraceful medical status quo.

So, I recommend as a matter of national security that you enlist the help of a friendly power to regularly review, and oversee the medical care you receive from your local regular healthcare providers. Briton, France and many other countries have excellent medical providers. As well as Canada. Briton, and Canada may be less of a language barrier for Americans.

Let's get this healthcare reform done now my fellow Americans. This year. Take no prisoners.

God Bless All Of You

Jack Smith — Working Class :-)

  1. Seconded. Twenty years in the belly of the healthcare beast has radicalized my opinions about what needs to be done.

Catch me in a particularly cranky mood and I can make a hell of a case for just federalizing the entire damned system.

  2. NOT FOR PROFIT, TAX PAYER SUPPORTED, SINGLE PAYER, AUTOMATIC, FREE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE FOR ALL is the best way to go.

Essentially HR676. Just like very other country in the civilized, developed world has done. Every single objective expert in every field unanimously agrees with this.

    What more can I say...

  3. Are you absolutely insane or just hate America?
Health care in the countries you mention are some of the worst in the world! People travel to the USA for any type of major health care needs. Also who is going to pay for all of this? The money Obama is spending in his liberal Pinhead administration now can almost never be paid back at this point as it is. You spout NO MORE PROFIT, well what person is actually going to go to medical school for a job where they can not make any money! For crying out loud man, it is the AMERICAN dream to make a buck! Please stop trying to turn the USA into France. Remember when France gets into trouble they come crawling to US!

  5. Eddie, is this a satire or are you serious?
    1) Not for profit is, of course, insurance companies, not doctors, for fucks sake. Everyone, doctors and nurses and everyone else. will still be making a wage, there just won't be a profit margin for insurance companies. In fact, demand for doctors will go up when more people can get care, meaning better pay and opportunities for good doctors.

2)Our health cost per capita would INCREASE because of less spent on profit. If we pay more in taxes, we'd pay way less in not having insurance premiums. This goes for businesses who are on the hook for health care for their employees.

3)Actually, health care in the countries he mentioned rank higher then us, and we are surprisingly low (37th) considering we spend more per person than anywhere else on the planet. As for the "people come from all over the world for our care," well, that's true, and has only the potential to get better with single-payer health care.

    4) Do you remember the revolutionary war, when france was the only reason we beat the british and started this country?

Can you PLEASE look into what you're talking about before you call someone unamerican? It is your civic duty to find ways to perfect this country and keep yourself informed. You're good intentions have been twisted but it doesn't have to be this way.

  7. Tom Joad's Ghost

People don’t come from all over the world to get treatment in the US. That hasn’t been happening for years. In fact many foreigners are afraid to visit the US for fear they will get sick or injured and fall into the hands of our American Medical Nightmare.

And many Americans are traveling to foreign countries to get their medical care for a 10th of what it cost in the US.

  8. If you nationalize health care you inevitably tie the hands of health care providers. If a Doctor prescribes a cretin medication and the grand free national health care providers do not agree and want to use a "cheaper" medication that will be the one you are forced to use. I have friends in Canada and this is what happens there all the time to them. It is not what is best for you, it is what is best and cheapest for the national health care insurance.

Also Tom you say, "It is your civic duty to find ways to perfect this country and keep yourself informed." I do that all the time, I stay away from MSNBC and the other lying liberal pinhead media outlets.

You defend this article where the author has wild conspiracy theories about the health care industry deliberately causing harm to members of government in order to prevent their votes!

Stop being a sheep! Use the brain that God gave you!

  9. Dear Eddie,

Your arguments are totally untrue. And bogus. What is true is that a not for profit national plan will put the patients needs first. Not the GREED! And Profits of the insurance companies, the pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and doctors.

Everyone will get what they need. And what is best for them at a cost they can afford and look to the future with.

Let me say it again. Healthcare is not a private for profit business. It’s a essential public service like fire, and police.

Private for profit healthcare is an oxymoron!

  12. Eddie,
It comes down to this; health care is either a right or a privilege, and every other industrialized country in the world has chosen to make it a right, but not us. Conservatives have tried for years to keep the money in the hands of themselves and their corporate cronies and they have succeeded, but now is the time to change; NOT FOR PROFIT, TAX PAYER SUPPORTED, SINGLE PAYER, AUTOMATIC, FREE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE FOR ALL is the best "ONLY" way to go.

  13. I'm one of few health insurance agents who is hoping for some sort of universal health insurance. The current system hurts too many people.

Several times a week I will get a story from a potential client that breaks my heart. I have to tell these mothers and fathers that I can't find an insurance company to insure them or their child. Sometimes people will start crying on the phone. Others will show anger that is sometimes directed at me. I feel for these people and believe that we should be able to do something.

A new system could keep more people healthy and paying taxes instead of disabled and "eating taxes."

If done right, this can be a win-win for all of us, healthy or sick.

It will take all of us to get this done right. But we have to succeed. Millions of lives are counting on us. Men, women, children, and babies. Rich, middle class, and poor. Insured, and uninsured. Americas future is counting on us. But we can do it. This year. :-)

We have to get the word out to everyone that we can. And we have to get them to do the same. It will take the overwhelming will, power, and action of the American people and our friends to get this done right. But we WILL! succeed.

My replies maybe slow, or few and far between. But just know that I am out there with each of you every day. Standing shoulder to shoulder with you. Fighting along side with you, for quality affordable healthcare for all as a right, and a reality.

  16. Dear MR. Facist,

I can see that your an idiot from your comments about the brilliance of the Obama administrations budget.

Do you really want the government making decisions about your healthcare and how you spend your health care dollars after watching their decisions about spending the money they already have?

Our society isnt perfect but I have lived in other countries, and its without a doubt better than any other country in the world.

IF we clone systems from other countries, we will become like those countries.
the choice should stay in the hands of the people.
The national government shoud be ensuring our national security, and regulating interstate commerce to promote free markets. Federal government could do a better job in addressing national emergencies and emerging threats, because it could focus on these issues rather than on everything else it is trying to do. A proper regard for constitutional boundaries would also go a long way in avoiding the arguments that follow when Washington acts by decree, disregarding the elected representatives of the fifty states. The State govenments should have more power to decide about how to best spend its taxpayors dollars and not be bullied by the federal government.
The closer a government is to its people, the more responsive it is to the felt needs of its constituencies. Too often, however, state and local leaders have to answer to federal bureaucrats first and their constituents second. When the federal government mandates a program that states and localities are forced to implement, or when a federal grant program is created to fund a specific state or community need, it blurs the lines of accountability.

Who answers to the people if a program fails? The federal government will point to state authorities carrying out the program; the states will point to the federal government, which came up with the program in the first place. And in the end no one is more confused than the people the program is supposed to be serving, who can't even say for sure who is responsible for what. This does not argue against all federal programs but it does require the recognition that there, indeed, are trade-offs.

Yes, Mr. Obamas policies are specifically designed to cloud the views of the American people who elected him. That way he and other politicians who support him cannot be directly held accountable for their failed policies.

Just watch-and this administration will prove itself-but how long will it take and at what expense?

I call for revolution-we need to reclaim our country and return to a true representative government with representatives who will stand accountable for their decisions.

Lead-Follow or get out of the way!

  17. I find it interesting that you use tax payer funded and free in the same sentence. So basically, it would be free to those who don't pay taxes, but continue to screw over those individuals who are becoming the fewer and fewer who support this country with higher taxation and reduced care. We can no longer afford an endeavor such as this.

I happen to like benefits I have. I can call a doctor and if sick, I can get an appointment the same day. My wife wanted to see a specialist, she got an appointment in less than a week. A few years ago, I needed a procedure to correct a non-life threatening issue, it was scheduled within 2 weeks of diagnosis. I could go on and on with similar stories, but the end result is this, these things would never happen under a socialized system.

Have you actually researched socialized medicine or are you just spouting left wing talking points? If you have researched it, please document where it works and where people like it.

Why is health care so expensive in this country, because we already have partial socialization, it is not a free market system. Health care was working fine as a free market system until the government stuck their regulatory hands in the mix. Medicare, Medicaid and SChip already create such huge administrative burdens.

Let's fix what ails the system first before we overhaul it to reduced care for all.

    1) Tort reform - create a looser pays system to encourage doctors and insurance company to fight frivolous lawsuits and reduce the number of cases brought to trial.
    2) Insurance Company reform - break down state boundaries and allow insurance companies to insure interstate.
    3) Extend the new drug patent from 7 years to 50 years - this would encourage greater research and development and allow companies to spread profits over 50 years, not 7, resulting in lower costs.

I am sure there are a number of other ways to allow the free market to work but this is a start.

By the way, health care is not a right, if you want to make it one, then amend the Constitution.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The reason I don't support government health-care is because at some point, Americans have become lazy and fat.

Lets just look at some facts:

    33% of Americans are Obese
    66% of Americans are Overweight

Leading cause of death: Heart Disease

You wonder why we spend so much on diabetes, heart bypass surgery, gastric bypass surgery, arthritis, and cancer. You wonder why we need to starting giving children cholesterol drugs. In America, the two biggest killers are Obesisty and Smoking. These aren't things that you accidentally acquire, these are conscious decisions you make about the way you live. Solving this laziness is the first key to getting rid of our health care crisis. This is something that every American can work on and this isn't something that needs to be taught by a doctor, this is just common sense.

(And don't even bother arguing that somehow 66% of Americans and 33% Americans just happen to naturally overweight/obese or that BMI doesn't take into account muscle/fat. I guarantee you those love handles people tot around these days aren't oblique muscles)

This whole mess of an America that we live in today is because at some point, we forgot to be self reliant and accountable to ourselves. Health care might be a right, but I don't see it in the same way as you do. Universal Health care should cover accidents, emergency care, or other bad luck circumstances, not act as a bail out for a life of poor health decisions.

  20. .

Related to American Patriot libertarian and Ayn Rand's love child.

There are many grotty callous-types who want to preach stupidity. One—American Patriot—is so irresponsible, he deserves special mention. I would like to start by discussing American Patriot's methods of interpretation, mainly because they are full of bull. What I have been writing up to this point is not what I initially intended to write in this comment. Instead, I decided it would be far more productive to tell you that the wackos speeches, like American Patriot, are full of declamation, bloviation, obfuscation, and equivocation. That's the current situation, and if you have any doubt about the reality of it, then are as whacked out as this bozo and haven't been paying close enough attention to what's been happening in the world.

I see a constant barrage written by loons like American Patriot and they normally include the line, "Personal responsibility is American as a Maytag washer" in large, 30-point type, as if the size of the font gives weight to the words. In reality, all that that fancy formatting really does is underscore the fact that it's dimwits like these that usually believe that my comments demonstrate a desire to make a cause célèbre out of their campaign to make a big deal out of nothing. I can't understand how anyone could go from anything I ever written to such a idiotic idea. In fact, my comments generally make the diametrically opposite claim, that this is not wild speculation. This is not a conspiracy theory. This is documented fact.

By these folks' standards as exhibited by American Patriot's wankery, if you have morals, believe that character counts, and actually raise your own children—let alone teach them to be morally fit—you're definitely a haughty, longiloquent lounge lizard. My standards—and I suspect yours as well—are quite different from his. For instance, I undoubtedly feel that we must improve the lot of humankind. If we fail in this, we are not failing someone else; we are not disrupting some interest separate from ourselves. Rather, it is we who suffer when we neglect to observe that folks like American Patriot has—not once, but several times—been able to retard the free and natural development of of our very own population without anyone stopping these dipshits. How long can this go on? As long as his obtrusive, indecent squibs are kept on life support. That's why we have to pull the plug on these clowns, move forward and put forth our efforts to make a genuine contribution to human society.

I could substantiate what I'm saying about stuck-up, stultiloquent good-for-nothings but I don't feel that that's necessary because we all know what they're like. American Patriot whines about mean-spirited extortionists, yet he enthusiastically supports dastardly delinquents. His apologues are based on a denial of reality, on the substitution of a deliberately falsified picture of the world in place of reality. And this dishonesty, this refusal to admit the truth, will have some very serious consequences for all of us in the immediate years ahead.

Those of us who are still sane, those of us who still have a firm grip on reality, those of us who still aver that social stability and family unity are two things that lecherous, hostile litterbugs have no concern for, have an obligation to do more than just observe what people like American Patriot are doing from a safe distance. We have an obligation to prevent the stupidity-induced catastrophe I foresee and save our nation from its time of deepest humiliation and disgrace. We have an obligation to stand as a witness in the divine court of the eternal judge and proclaim that his and his cronies he follows personal attacks are characterized by a preachy arrogance unbefitting to someone who knows so little. And we have an obligation to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable in our society—the sick, the old, the disabled, the unemployed, and our youth—all of whose lives are made miserable by jackasses like American Patriot. For some strange reason, he is worried he'll be disenfranchised and shunned by dirty masters of deceit. Well, that's another story. To get back to my main point, I ought to mention that if history follows its course, it should be evident that these types like American Patriot cause all sorts of problems for us. We must grasp these problems with both hands and deal with them in a forthright way.

In closing: Maybe it's just me, but don't you think that we need to stand up for our rights? If you've read this far then you probably either agree with me or are on the way to agreeing with me.

This is spamming which I normally reject but I published it to show my handful of readers the nature of what is being called the "single payer" alternative.

At some level I am in agreement, but the strident tone of this comment thread, together with the take-no-prisoners approach of the single-payer movement makes me understand why this part of the discussion has been marginalized. I am more impressed with reasoned arguments from sources that are, in fact, involved with health care first hand and are ready and willing to have constructive conversations about what needs to change and how best to go about making those changes. 30. Ah Jack Smith "Working Class", first of all lets begin with the wonderful title you gave yourself as Working class, OH those that have to give themselves titles because they want to be part of something or a cause etc. However, those that are working class do not have to title ourselves as so; in any aspect of one's life, if you lived it, you laugh at the titles others have given themselves to show their struggle, status (so many words fit here!) but the truth is those individuals that don't need to title themselves and continue living without harping on their struggle or past make the most significant change in there life and those around them.

Now let's go into your wonderful argument for Universial healthcare. Which A.) gives no statistics for backing your claims. You just ramble on about big conspiracies and crimes against humanity, viva revolution or whatever other Che ideas and lines you choose to use. Therefore feel free to have some of your own thoughts once in a while instead of doing what the cool kids are doing, like your beloved France. But France has kinda become similar to those kids in High school that made all these comments about how they were this and that and others where ridiculous if they could not see their genius; however, when they were confronted on their beliefs they just folded and actually were not really saying anything just wanted attention, OH, the French like so many Bloggers today. Back to the Healthcare issue, since you did not give any real facts, stats for your role in Conspiracy Theory, Mel Gibson would be proud of your performance. I am going to respond in a similar fashion with just a final Statement, Name for me one Government agency that you feel is run in a efficient and intelligent way. Could it be the The DMV, FDA, VAs, you choose there's a plethora to choose from. You know you do not enjoy going to any of institutions or dealing with them, they screw up your Driver's license, they allow drugs with extremely harsh side effects into the market, they provide subpar service to out veterans who fought and fight for your very right to speak as you do. Therefore, Why would you ever want them running our healthcare system?

The guy has lost his touch. I used to respect the guy, but he's gone. Bush has destroyed this country with his idiot war on the wrong people, no WMD's and too many lost American lives. Are we going to just stick by our guns and say, Our idiot system, right or wrong."?

The facts are, other countries spend less than we do on healthcare, have better outcomes, live longer, and are fitter than we are. And they have Universal Healthcare. We're the last industrialized country not to have it.

If we adopt HR 676 we will be on an economic footing to regain our economic might. Without it, we will fail, that's it. The U.S.A. will be destined to be only an equal or such countries as England, China, Russia, and Japan - not superior to. I, for one, am willing to give HR 676 a shot, to better our healthcare system, our economy and our country. Anything less is treason.

  33. Dearest Nivloc,

"Anything less is Treason." OOOHHHH You revolutionaries who most of the time start for the people, usually do not end their and then everyong gets screwed. See your issue is that if someone does not agree with your view point their an idiot, You are no diffrent than those you dispise such as Bush cause its your way or the Highway. So in that case I'm hitting the road till I find some reasonable people to discuss things with. Those who's opinions' differ yet don't have to cram it down your throat, You can try to change people, but its the people who change themselves that carry on.
I have an entire family in the healthcare profession on the floor and in the offices and none of them want it, and they Know what their doing, Highly respected in their fields. So, I am going to go with them over your Youtube videos and websites.

The US has the most dangerous, most costly, most corrupted, and most ineffective health care delivery system in the developed world. Everyone of your lives and your children lives are in imminent and very serious danger. Every minuet of every day. Because you or your loved ones may become sick or injured and then have to come into contact with our HORRIFIC corrupted US healthcare delivery system.

Healthcare in America is so bad that Americans are shrinking. Americans used to be the tallest people in the world. Now they are like #40 or something. And worst of all, for the fist time in our history, American children’s life expectancy is less than that of their parents. This is catastrophic. The American people are literally going extinct as private for profit healthcare kills them off by the millions. :-(

  35. This article is from my sister and when my nephew was born I was so happy she lived in Canada otherwise she would be in the poor house.

My other sister lives in England was unemployed when she fell down and broke her ankle and had surgery. She is a life long asthmatic and her medicines are provided for a minimal costs in England. This was not the case when she lived in the US.

She was employed for a long time before this happened and is currently working she would be in the poor house right now if they did not have a national health care plan.

I asked my husband to retire when I found a great paying job there is quite a few years in age between us.

The biggest reason I wanted him to retire was do to his knee pain he worked on the railroad in the yards and had a lot of knee and back problems.

Our marriage is his second my 1st and we are about to celebrate 20 yrs together. We have two lovely kids who have helped me while treating for brain cancer.

They have grown up past their years they are 14 and 18. They had to grow up because their dad was helicoptered out to a hospital due to a life threatening illiness. He spent 49 days in the hospital and died once and was brought back to life thank G-D!!

That hospital is 1 1/2 hours from us by car so I slept there and prayed while they stayed home and went to school did their housework, shopping laundry and cooking.

I don't know how long I will be able to continue treating for my brain cancer we can not afford Cobra. I was recently laid off work.

I returned to work 4 months after my surgery because I could not afford Cobra at that time either.

I begged my doctors to release me and they only released me for 30 hours a week. I was able to afford regular medical insurance through the company plan.

My husband and I started work at a young age he was a farm boy and was working at a local grocery store at the age of 14.

I started working in 7th grade selling blow up furniture. I have worked since that age and when unemployment hit the US in the early 80's I joined the ARMY to stay employed and have medical insurance.

The time is now to march on to Washington DC to protest and get a national health care program for everyone as long as they are citizens.

I feel if we march we can get the NHCP (National Health Care Program)

We have such high unemployement and many people who don't have insurance now because they can't afford it just like me.

If you want to get involved email me at swambo4259@sbcglobal.net.

We will need bus companies with a social conscience to offer us free tranportation food companies or restaurants to offer us free food since we can not afford any of this.

Business will pick up for these companies because of the publicity they will get providing these services.

In 1995 there was the Million Man March on Washington. Let us make 2009 a year 10 millions citizens March on Washington.

  36. JackSmith, I don't think you really get why Americans are "dying by the millions". Health insurance is suppose to insure, it can't kill people. Accidents happen, that's what insurance is for, but you know why health care is so expensive? Its the American lifestyle, people here are on average richer than the rest of the world. We eat too much red meat, we love processed food, we love bacon and cheese. We love cars, we TV, we love internet, we love sitting at home doing those things. I don't think you understand that we're suffering from our own choices; the American lifestyle. We're not talking about insuring accidents any more, we're talking about insuring stupidity. Granted someone may come along with a sob story which is an actual legitimate case for insurance, but the truth is, those are rare.

  37. Anonymous,

Private health insurance KILLS! people because it is driven by the motivation to make profit. This profit motive causes healthcare providers to compromise patients medical care. Compromised medical care always results in needless suffering, injury, disability, and hundreds of thousands of needless deaths every year in America.

Medical care is by nature extremely intolerant to compromise. This is one of the unique qualities of healthcare. This is also why it cannot, and should not ever function as a private for profit business. Otherwise you end up killing people for money like we are doing now in America. As I pointed out before “private for profit healthcare IS and Oxymoron”.

It is not the providers, or healthcare communities place to try and force or dictate to their patients or the public how they should live their lives. It is the responsibility of the providers, and the healthcare communities to educate patients and the public, and also to assist their patients and the public at staying as strong and healthy as possible, at however they choose to live their lives.

This is called RESPECT. And is an ESSENTIAL part of providing healthcare.

  39. For a fighting program and mass actions,up to including massive strikes
(a proposal to be considered and voted on by the Workers Emergency Recovery Campaign {WERC})

The formation of WERC could become a step in the right direction in the massive fight against the biggest attacks on the working class since the Great Depression. Unfortunately, however, WERC’s platform, as currently formulated, has some serious shortcomings. It is a list of generally supportable demands, but along with the demands there are built-in limitations seemingly designed to keep this campaign palatable to capitalist “friends of labor,” such as the Greens and the Progressive Democrats, who have signed on as endorsers of WERC.
The current gaggle of “liberal/progressive” Democratic politicians, as well as the bloated and entrenched labor bureaucracy, have come together to negotiate away our jobs, our social programs, and our benefit packages. In the coming weeks and months, we can expect a further watering down of the Employee Free Choice Act; a total inability to provide a plan for affordable, quality universal health care; layoffs and/or furloughs of thousands of public workers and teachers; school closures; tuition rises and restrictions on student registration at public colleges; and the commensurate ever-increasing expansion of prisons and the military-industrial complex.
To counter the current attacks against the unions and all working people, we need massive united labor actions from coast to coast. Factory occupations, such as the one at Republic Windows and Doors, are necessary to stop massive layoffs and closures of factories and workplaces. Unified strikes of public workers, teachers, and students are the only tactic that can save social programs, education, and the social safety net. But the current labor leadership, entrenched in its love affair with the Democratic Party, is incapable of launching the type of struggle that can win against the current attacks.
WERC’s current platform and program are not adequate as a fight-back strategy. For example, WERC calls for nationalizing the banks and the automobile industry. But reformist social democratic governments have nationalized banks during this crisis and before. They keep the banks and the financial institutions going for the benefit of the bankers and the capitalists, and then they de-nationalize them when it is safe to do so, returning the bank’s assets and operating capital to private hands once the risk of failure has been averted with the aid of public resources. Therefore, in contrast to pro-capitalist nationalization schemes, we must call for the nationalization of banks, financial institutions, and basic industries under workers’ control and without compensation.
Similarly, WERC’s action plan is limited to measures such as writing letters to President Obama begging him to turn against his benefactors. WERC’s program suggests that labor activists conduct a cross-class campaign of educational forums, devoid of any concrete preparation for the type of militant struggles labor must engage in if we are to turn the current class war around. Of course educational forums are needed to supplement the education we get from the bosses’ frontal attacks every day. But what we really need from labor activists are strategies and tactics for turning our unions back into truly democratic fighting organizations that act in the interest of the entire working class, rather than in their own narrow interests or that of the labor aristocracy.
We propose that WERC commit to organizing and publicizing regional, inter-union general meetings to organize and coordinate preparatory committees in every local. The preparatory committees, in turn, can take the lead in preparing, mobilizing, and motivating workers in their own locals to help lay the necessary groundwork for massive actions. WERC’s role should be to serve as a framework around which workers can construct sustained, ongoing, democratically run coalitions of unions, working class communities, and the unemployed, with the goal of building for broad-based, militant direct actions such as massive strikes and occupations of workplaces, schools and universities. Our brothers and sisters in France have shown that such actions are the natural response of the working class. We should start organizing and follow their example.
We propose that the WERC adopt the following program and method of transitional demands, to be implemented by mobilizing the working class for a massive fightback:
    1. Full Employment at prevailing union rates for all who are willing and able to work. To assure full employment, thirty hours of work for forty hours’ pay must be implemented to spread the available work to all and to compensate for the increased rate of production over the last 50 years that has been exploited by capital to sustain high unemployment rates and lower real wages. Passage of the employee free choice act (EFCA) will assist workers in forging fighting unions capable of winning full employment. To that end we must mobilize demonstrations demanding the right to organize not be impeaded and for passage of the EFCA.
    2. Failing industries (both financial and industrial) must be taken over (nationalized) under workers’ control without compensation to provide adequate access to credit and to get the wheels of industry rolling again. For example, the Big Three automakers, as well as the domestic plants of foreign auto manufacturers, should be taken over under workers’ control. Only then can the industry be rationally planned to assure that production is retooled to provide, first and foremost, a public transportation and energy infrastructure that obviates the need for excessive auto production and the commensurate waste of petroleum. The production of non-polluting electric cars, for example, must be planned and coordinated under workers’ control as a step toward staving off the environmental disasters threatened by climate change.
    3. Housing is a right! Stop all foreclosures and evictions. Move the homeless and those in overcrowded housing into housing already vacated due to foreclosures and the falling real estate market. Massive public works projects to build adequate housing for all, and put people to work doing socially necessary construction, must be financed by a banking industry nationalized and coordinated under workers’ control.
    4. Quality universal public education at no charge from daycare and pre-school through the graduate level. Working people know that without a good education, our children have no future. To confront the current economic and environmental crisis, everyone’s intellectual potential must be cultivated. Through education we can build a rational economy and divest the world of poverty and drudgery. Education should be under the control of teachers, parents, and students old enough to participate. In that way, we will assure quality education and not the miseducation, overtesting, and ruling class propaganda that currently plague our public schools.
    5. Quality Universal Health Care at no charge from prenatel to the grave is long overdue. Each person must be given access to the benefit of medical science and current treatment options. Insurance companies must have no “placee at the table” the only way to provide health care for all is to divest it of the profit motive. To accomplish democratic health care, all medical institutions must be run by worker (Doctor, Nurses, Staff) control with community/pacient participation.
    6. End attacks on undocumented workers! End the ICE raids! Full employment rights to all workers! To end capital flight through working class solidarity across borders, we demand: Same work, same contract, same wages and working conditions! Down with the maquiladoras! Open all the borders. For the right of all workers to cross the borders and seek work and establish their homes without restrictions and arrests. Free all detained undocumented workers!
    7. US troops out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the rest of the world. Down with imperialist oppression. The defeat of imperialism is a victory for workers and the oppressed in the world.
    8. When the bosses declare a massive layoff or attempt to close down a workplace, workers should occupy the factories and the workplaces and establish workers’ control. Follow the example of our Argentinean brothers and sisters, and go even further by establishing a massive network of occupied workplaces as democratically run organs of an incipient planned rational economy.
    9. We cannot count on Obama and the capitalists to clean up the environment and prevent catastrophic climate change. For them, profit always comes before the environment and the need of the workers. But the time to stop climate change is running out. The working class must combine its struggle against capitalist exploitation, and against the current economic crisis, with environmental consciousness. We must fight for workers’ control of industry in order to transform the current, outmoded technology of industrial production to totally green and sustainable technology.
    10. Break with Democrats. No cross-class coalitions with Democrats and pro-capitalist Green Party politicians. For a struggle to replace the union bureaucracies that give our dues to the capitalist Democratic Party. Fight for the independence of the working class! We need to build a workers’ or labor party based on democratically run unions and organizations of the oppressed and the unemployed.
    11. For a workers’ government that can and will implement and defend all the above transitional demands. To accomplish these goals, working people need their own government. If we allow the capitalists to control the state via their government, they will continue to attack and ultimately destroy our social gains. To defend our gains, we need workers’ power.

  41. At this moment I will only point out the my questions of the numbers in regards to how many support a public option … Later I will go though the post in detail.

It’s not just because according to a new AARP POLL: 86 percent of seniors want universal healthcare security for All, including 93% of Democrats, 87% of Independents, and 78% of Republicans. With 79% of seniors supporting creating a new strong Government-run public option plan, available immediately. Including 89% of Democrats, 80% of Independents, and 61% of Republicans, STUNNING!!

With any poll the devil is in the details of the question and interruption; Does anybody not want health care security for everybody? No that is a given everybody should have health care security. If I polled people and asked if everybody should have security in having something to eat? Everybody would say yes but I can not extrapolate that to mean everybody wants a public option at the store and those who have more pay more those who don’t get food for free … that is exactly what your post is doing, not a very honest start.

Does support for health care security mean support for a public option? And is there any other methods to have health care security other than a public option or specifically the public option being offered? No and Yes. We as people should love our neighbor and should concern ourselves with his well being, Matthew 25 clearly tells us this.

But is the Government the people? The Government does not inherit the kingdom of God. A government is not external. The commandment is to the people of the church who will inherit the kingdom of God.

2 Corinthians 9:7 defines how we are to give, hardly seems to suggest that we should consider paying tax as a form of charity.

Deuteronomy 12:13 also clarifies that we are to at least be prudent in where we make offerings.

If it is not the government, then lets slow down and look at the facts not rush through platitudes! What is taking place is putting tax on charities to pay for all of the new spending which would not be necessary. If we are to provide the care though organizations like “Good Samaritan Hospital” then hold on a minute we are talking about Life and Death, Heaven and Hell. … I don’t want to make statements like “a strong public option will dramatically lower cost for everyone” but I want to answer you in kind on the question ….
Is a Public Option the Only Option to provide health care security? – No, providing a dollar per dollar across the board tax cut for charitable giving to health care would allow charities to provide every body with health care security. This would also be “morally correct.”
